Code Blue - Recovery Drink Review

Code Blue is a "Recovery Drink." Some of us got three hours of sleep last night and decided to give it a whirl to see if it would make us look and feel better. Our tongues are blue and we want to tell you all about it -- because every stylish man and woman needs to know how to pull off the "I totally didn't pull an all nighter" lie.

At first, we were a little unimpressed by the taste of Code Blue, and thought we'd try it poured out over ice. Better -- and blue! Really blue.

Code Blue has no caffeine and is "low calorie" (60 cals in a bottle). That makes sense, in case there is a headache involved, because caffeine can aggravate a headache. Code Blue claims to work because of its glutathione (an antioxidant), prickly pear juice, agave nectar, "Enhanced Electrolyte Solution," and vitamins like B and C.

Did you just say "perfect hair of the dog for the morning after margarita night" or did it just echo so loudly in our heads after we read "agave nectar" that we thought you said it?

We don't feel nauseous, our sleepy headache is subsiding, and we seem to be concentrating okay. Still, we are tired and would like to be double fisting this with coffee. And maybe that would get rid of the blue tinge on our tongues ... it's slight, but it's there.

Coco Rocha to Host ET Canada's Red Carpet Coverage

First, a budding fashion line, and now a foray into television. Coco Rocha is building quite the mini-empire away from the world of modeling.

Rocha, a Vancouver, B.C. native, announced on her blog that she will be hosting ET Canada's red carpet coverage for the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards airing on Jan. 31.

And this isn't the first time the former Chanel muse will be stepping in front of the camera; Rocha previously hosted E! News Canada's fashion week coverage.

If Rocha proves yet again that she can hold her own on the small screen, we suspect a regular hosting gig may be in the near future. It is the beginning of award show season, after all.

Move over, Joan Rivers!

However, Coco isn't quitting her day job just yet. The Canadian beauty recently landed the Rimmel campaign.

Offene Immobilienfonds erneut geschlossen

Das Schlimmste schien schon überstanden, als vergangene Woche erneut zwei offene Immobilienfonds ihre Pforten geschlossen haben. Doch es kommt noch dicker: Nicht nur, dass die Anleger nun wieder nicht an ihr Geld kommen – nach einem Bericht des Handelsblattes wurden die Fonds rückwirkend geschlossen und bereits get?tigte Anteilsrückgaben storniert.

Immobilenfonds hatten zuletzt turbulente Zeiten hinter sich: erst zogen die Anleger w?hrend der Finanzkrise ihr angelegtes Kapital in Gr??enordnungen ab, was erst zu einem Fast-Kollaps und sp?ter zur Schlie?ung etlicher offener Fonds geführt hat, dann mussten mehrere Fonds ihre Immobilien neu bewerten – sprich abwerten, da hoher Leerstand und sinkende Mieten an Geb?udewert nagten. Doch die Serie der Hiobsbotschaften für Anteilseigner von Immobilienfonds reisst nicht ab.

Letzte Woche setzten dann erneut zwei Fonds die Rücknahme von Anteilsscheinen wegen akuter Liquidit?tsengp?sse aus. Den Anfang machte der Degi International des Anbieters Aberdeen Immobilien, zwei Tage sp?ter wurde auch der Fonds Axa immoselect von AXA Investment Managers eingefroren. Einen besonders faden Beigeschmack hinterlie? die Schlie?ung allerdings, da sie rückwirkend erfolgte und am Vortag der Schlie?ung in Auftrag gebene Anteilsrückgaben nach einem Bericht des Handelsblattes nicht mehr ausgeführt bzw. durchgeführte Transaktionen storniert wurden.

Bisher standen Studierende nicht gerade in dem Verdacht, besonders umworbene Mieter zu sein, schlie?lich gelten sie als nicht besonders zahlungskr?ftig, dafür als umso feierfreudiger. Aber gerade das schmale Budget l?sst die angehenden Akademiker zur attraktiven Mieterschaft mutieren. Sie suchen ihre Bleibe nicht nach Gr??e, Südlage oder ?hnlichen Aspekten aus, sondern nach ihrer Budgetgrenze. So nimmt der Student dann auch mal eine einfache, 25 Quadratmeter gro?e Wohnung für 260 Euro, weil er sie eben bezahlen kann. Für den Vermieter bedeutet dies, da? er viele kleine Wohnungen für viel Geld vermieten kann. Auch gr??ere Wohnungen sind, zumindest wenn sie WG-tauglich sind, beliebt und begehrt. Und selbst nach dem Abschluss bleibt der dann ehemlige Student ein begehrter Mieter, wenn aus dem Bettelstudent ein gutbezahlter Akademiker geworden ist – schlie?lich bleiben sie ihrer Universit?tsstadt in vielen F?llen treu.

Aber nicht nur die Anwesenheit der Studenten macht die Universit?tsstadt attraktiv, sondern auch die Universit?t selber. Sie bietet im Gegensatz zu St?dten mit einem hohen Anteil an Besch?ftigten im produzierenden Gewerbe eine gewisse konjunkturunabh?ngige Stabilit?t für Arbeitspl?tze – eine Verlagerung der Universit?t ins Ausland in Krisenzeiten oder aus Kostengründen ist wohl nicht zu erwarten. Dafür k?nnte Investoren der demographische Wandel einen Strich durch die Rechnung machen. Weniger Geburten bedeuten auch weniger Studenten. Es k?nnte also sein, da? in Zukunft aus einer Universit?tsstadt eine ehemalige Universit?tsstadt wird.

Das h?tte sich die Studentenschaft sicher nicht tr?umen lassen: Statt als dauerfeiernde, laute und nicht sehr zahlungskr?ftige Mieterschaft gilt sie pl?tzlich als Vermieters Liebling – zumindest wenn es nach der Deutschen Bank Research geht. Diese fand in einer Studie heraus, da? der Wertzuwachs für Eigentumswohnungen in idyllischen Universit?tsst?dten wie Marburg, Münster oder Trier – also St?dte, die nicht im Verdacht stehen, ?Boomst?dte“ zu sein – in den vergangenen zehn Jahren um etwa 0,75 Prozent über dem von St?dten mit einem geringen Anteil oder g?nzlich ohne Studenten lag. Gerade der hohe Studierendenanteil an der Gesamtbev?lkerung von mindestens 15 Prozent wirkt sich hier positiv auf die Preise aus.

Nach einer Studie der Deutschen Bank Research haben neben den üblichen, für gehobene Mietpreise bekannte Metropolen wie Hamburg und München vor allem kleinere Universit?tsst?dte attraktive Wohnungsm?rkte – was nicht an den Villen der C4-Professoren liegt, sondern an den mit schmalem Budget ausgestatteten Studierenden.

Traum für Vermieter: ein vorhandener Campus inklusive Studenten.

Statt Vermieters Albtraum nun der Liebling?

Cisco’s efforts in virtualization focus primarily on the launch of its new blade system. According to a source familiar with the products, the blades will be based on Intel’s Core i7 processors and come with up to 192GB of memory, well above the maximum capacity of 128GB in today’s blades. Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) recently announced it would begin shipping Core i7 Xeon processors, codenamed Nehalem-EP, as part of its Xeon 5000 series.

Cisco Systems on Monday is widely expected to launch network servers in a move that will put it in the virtualization business and potentially at odds with players like Hewlett-Packard and IBM.

Brocade is aware of the impending news from Cisco on its proposal of its next-generation, virtualized data center architecture. While we are withholding any comment of this proposal until we have had a chance to review Cisco’s announcements, please note that I will follow up with you.

The blades include a PCI-Express connection, allowing them to connect to Cisco’s high-speed Unified Fabric architecture. These connections also give the blades very fast Ethernet access to both the network and storage devices and eliminate the need for a storage-area network (SAN). Instead, the blades would talk directly to the storage servers.

How widely expected is this Cisco data center announcement Monday? Very expected. TheStreet.com cites analysts that have been briefed about Cisco’s plans, which could revolve around switch-server hybrid boxes. Reuters confirmed that the March 16 announcement is related to a data center strategy to improve efficiency. According to Network World, Cisco will launch a “Unified Computing System” that includes backing from Microsoft, Intel, BMC, EMC and VMware:

And even Cisco’s rivals are in on the act. I received an e-mail from Brocade representatives telling me they’ll have a response to Cisco’s move on Monday so be ready. Given the players lined up with Cisco (notably EMC) it’s not surprising that Brocade, which acquired Foundry Networks, would have a response:

The competition should be fun–and if it improves data center performance all the better–but it’s going to be interesting to watch the profit margin implications from this hardware battle.

• Cisco will enter the server market with boxes that will play nice with its networking gear;

• HP and IBM are likely to enter the networking market;

• Virtualization will be embedded everywhere as a commodity software layer;

• Ultimately, storage, servers, switches and even routers will all be lumped in a multi-purpose box in the data center that will save space.

Last month, InternetNews’ Andy Patrizio had a detailed story on Cisco’s virtualization plans.

Why is everyone so wound up? It’s all about the converged box scenario in the data center. As we moved to converged boxes–switches and storage meet servers and virtualization–the architecture of the data center is going to change. And you know what? The architecture of the data center has to change. A few ripple effects:

Microsoft, Intel, BMC, EMC Smarts and VMware are expected to endorse Cisco’s “Unified Computing” data center strategy at next Monday’s launch in New York. Sources say these companies will be on the roster of partners Cisco is lining up for its strategy, which is also expected to include the introduction of the company’s ‘California’ blade servers.
